Džaferović: BiH will become a NATO member sooner or later

The interrupted session of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament from March 13 has continued in Sarajevo. Among other things, the representatives will consider the Bill on Determining the Salary of Employees in BiH Institutions, which was proposed by Milorad Živković from SNSD. Representatives will also discuss the Bill on the Disposal of Immovable Military Property, writes NAP.

Mirsad Đugum (SBB), who proposed this law, said that it is clear that BiH has been standing still for a long time on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration.

- The path started and was halted during the registration of 63 facilities. This proposal brings us into a different, safer, and better position. The BiH Presidency has also supported BiH's path towards NATO. It is clear that every country has increased its investments upon joining NATO. This is the first reading, and if anyone has any proposals, they are open to submitting amendments and adopting this law - said Đugum.

He added that one should not be surprised that this parliamentary convocation is the most ineffective and that everyone together is creating a brake for the citizens of BiH.

- That is why we need to adopt this law in order to open the possibility of a new and different process and outcome for the path of BiH citizens - Đugum added.

Šefik Džaferović (SDA) said that he knows the outcome of the vote on this law but emphasized its importance.

- I think this is a small condition, but it has become a big problem for BiH, and I think it is an attempt to politicize NATO membership. BiH will become a member of the NATO alliance, and the sooner it happens, the better for everyone. The law being offered is very simple. It requires that the property be registered to the state of BiH. I call on the representatives to support this law and unblock our path to NATO - said Džaferović.

Saša Magazinović from SDP also said that their party will support all proposals that bring BiH closer to NATO. Mato Franjičević from HDZ BiH said that he is convinced that this law aims to take a step towards solving the problem.

- It is not complete, but amendments can be made. We need to define what to do with military property, which is not defined in the articles of this law - said Franjičević.

Drago Kalabić said that SNSD has its clear stance, but that the situation has changed somewhat compared to when the law was first proposed.

- Some have mentioned it, and some have deliberately omitted that SNSD had a clear stance when the leaders were negotiating. This is not a priority issue for BiH. We have many problems that need to be solved before this. Unfortunately, we see in another country what happens when some opt for one side or the other. That will not happen in BiH, but the examples of what Croatia's accession has brought it are interesting. Is it really as it is presented to us - said Kalabić, adding that today is not the best timing because it is the anniversary of NATO bombing the Serbian people.

He added, replying to Džaferović who said that BiH will be a NATO member sooner or later, that he can say the opposite and state that BiH will never be a NATO member.

- This problem has been taken out of the context of the leaders' agreement without others considering it - Kalabić added.
