Duraković: If there is no support for loan conversion from francs to euros, we will go to Strasbourg

Delegates of the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will today discuss in urgent procedure the Proposal of the Law that would enable the conversion of loans from Swiss francs to euros, Patria reports.

Kemal Duraković, president of the Association Franak in BiH, said he hopes that the delegates will support the proposal of the law on Swiss franc loans.

- The fact that the Government of FBiH is against it means that the Government works for the banks, not for the people. I hope we will not have to go to Strasbourg - said Duraković.  

Thousands of citizens of BiH encountered problems after they took out loans from Hypo Alpe Adria bank in Swiss francs instead of euros. Initially, this was a more favorable loan for citizens, but the citizens' debt practically doubled overnight. Some of them are unable to repay the loan because their monthly installment has increased more than their total income.

The draft was unanimously adopted two months ago by the representatives in the House of Representatives, thus supporting thousands of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, the Government of FBiH opposes this law. Finance Minister Jelka Milićević believes that this problem is exclusively between the bank and the client, Patria reports.
