Duda: No one except the US can stop Putin, and both Moscow and Kyiv must make concessions

(Patria) - Polish President Andrzej Duda said yesterday that Ukraine will have to make a compromise to end the war, and that both sides - Moscow and Kyiv - will have to make concessions.

In an interview with Euronews, Duda said that no one except the United States is capable of stopping Russia.

- Today my conclusion is completely clear - there is no one, except the US, who would be able to stop (Russian President) Vladimir Putin.

That is why I believe that President Donald Trump, with his determination, can end this war.

Only American pressure can end this war and help achieve a peace that will not be favorable to either side - Duda assessed.

He also stated that Ukraine will have to give ground on some issues in order to achieve lasting peace.

- It must be a compromise. De facto, this peace should, in my personal opinion, boil down to the fact that neither side will be able to say it won this war, because each side will have to give ground in some sense.

Ukraine will also have to give ground in some sense, because that will probably happen. To what extent? It is difficult for me to answer at this stage - said the Polish president.

According to him, the war is exhausting Russia, and Putin is playing a risky game.

Commenting on the economic policy of the American president, Duda said he expected Trump to take steps toward equalizing what he considers disproportions in trade relations and protecting American interests.

- He was a casino owner, so he is a man who learned a specific business game and has his own tough business methods, developed over decades. He transfers them to politics and plays very hard.

But I see it that way, that it is simply a certain business game that Trump has brought into politics at this moment and is playing hard in his second term - Duda added.

He also pointed to the importance of cooperation between the US and Europe, noting that US interests are "strategic" and that Washington has tangible benefits from its relationship with Europe.

- That is the foundation of the system of balance, which has lasted continuously since World War II... American troops have remained on Polish territory, we have a rotational American presence.

There are about 10,000 soldiers on our territory, that cooperation is close and permanent - Duda emphasized and noted that he will try to convince Trump to station more American units in Poland.

Duda also highlighted the stability of NATO, claiming that in the event of an invasion of one of the member states, Article 5 would come into effect and all members would act in solidarity to provide support and defense.
