A quarter of a century since the beginning of the aggression on Dubrovnik and southern Croatia is being marked on Saturday with the programme "Lest We Forget", reports the Patria News Agency.
On the first day of October 1991, at exactly 6 AM, the former JNA attacked the Croatian south from land, sea, and air with more than 13,000 soldiers and reservists from Serbia and Montenegro. Dubrovnik was left without electricity and water on the very first day, and in an attempt to leave it in complete informational blockade, the aggressors rocketed the building of the Information Centre and the transmitter and relay on Srđ. This cut off telephone and damaged radio communications of the City with the world. The city was defended by 750 poorly armed defenders.
The severity of the attack on Dubrovnik is evidenced by the fact that in the first week of October alone, 100 Dubrovnik defenders and citizens were wounded and 27 were killed. During the aggression on Dubrovnik and southern Croatia, more than 300 defenders and civilians were killed, more than 30,000 people had to leave their homes, and 336 people were captured and taken to camps in Serbia and Montenegro, writes Index.
