STATE PRISON VOJKOVIĆI: Drug boss Matković sewed his mouth shut, his group on hunger strike

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Milan Matković, as well as several other persons arrested on the order of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina for drug trafficking, who are currently in custody at the State Prison in Vojkovići, have gone on a hunger strike.

That Matković sewed his mouth shut was confirmed to N1 by Siniša Perković, the warden of the prison in Vojkovići.

“It happened this morning and he is now in the medical unit to treat the injury. They are protesting certain things related to the Court of BiH, that an injustice has been done to him. It is not clear to us what exactly is at issue, but I know it has nothing to do with our treatment of them in the prison”, Perković stated.

He further added that Matković and the others went on a hunger strike yesterday because they are protesting the violation of human rights, allegedly because they believe they do not have the right to a fair trial and investigation in their case, all due to media pressure, as well as other high officials, including international ones in BiH.

Recall, Milan Matković was arrested in July last year in Trebinje, and is linked to international smuggling of large quantities of cocaine, preparations for liquidations, as well as other criminal offenses in BiH, the countries of the region, the European Union, and overseas countries.

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that multiple criminal proceedings are being conducted against Matković in different countries.

In August, as part of the same operation, a police officer suspected of corrupt activities and using police capacities to assist suspects in committing criminal offenses was also arrested.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH stated that the five arrested persons are linked to several criminal offenses being processed within the case “Milan Matković and others”, due to involvement in organized crime.

Criminal proceedings are currently underway against them before the Court of BiH, and they were arrested as part of an operation carried out by SIPA last year in Trebinje.
