Bosnian citizen wounded in shooting in Sweden, in serious condition

(Patria) - The death toll in a school shooting in central Sweden has risen to 11, and the attacker is believed to be among the dead, police said on Wednesday.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injured, and police warn that the death toll could rise, television SVT reported.

"At this moment, we do not have a complete picture of the number of injured," said police spokesperson Fredrik Svedemir.

Swedish media report that a Bosnian citizen is among the injured, which was confirmed by Muhamed Šetkić, a parliamentary security official.

"He is a student at a local college and was wounded. He is in intensive care. His condition is serious, but stable," Šetkić confirmed, as reported by Oslobođenje.

Incidentally, the wounded young man (25) is a member of the Bosnian Islamic Assembly in Örebro.

Aftonbladet also reports that the community was in contact with the young man's family.

"During the day, the assembly held a crisis meeting, and later they were open to members. I was horrified. I couldn't believe my ears. It was so difficult and senseless. I feel like crying," said Šetkić.

According to Aftonbladet, a 35-year-old man is suspected of the attack at the school.

The police spokesperson said that the situation remains uncertain regarding the condition of the injured.

"Since we also have no information about the severity of the injuries of those being treated in the hospital, there is unfortunately a risk that the death toll will not stop at eleven," Svedemir said.

Let us recall, the shooting occurred around 12:33 PM local time on Tuesday. The target was an adult education center located on a campus with other schools in Örebro, a city 200 kilometers west of Stockholm.

Police noted that authorities believe the perpetrator is among the dead and that no further attacks are expected.

Police add that he acted alone, but the motive for the attack is still unknown.
