Serbian citizens attempted to flee BiH: Jewelry robbers from Bijeljina arrested at border

Thanks to the cooperation of members of the Border Police of BiH and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, Serbian citizens suspected of robbing a jewelry store in the center of Bijeljina several hours earlier were arrested at the Rača International Border Crossing, the Border Police of BiH announced, as reported by the Patria news agency.

Members of the Bijeljina Border Police Unit arrested M.P. (1994) and S.M. (1978), citizens of the Republic of Serbia, after they were previously informed by police officers of the Bijeljina Public Security Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska that a robbery involving the use of firearms had been committed at a jewelry store in the Bijeljina area, and that a large quantity of jewelry had been stolen during the incident.

M.P. and S.M. were checked separately, in two taxis, as they were leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina. The gold was discovered during a search of the Serbian citizens and their belongings.

Regarding this incident, a press conference was held on April 12, 2016, which was also attended by the head of the Northeast Field Office in Bijeljina, Dragan Kulić. The conference highlighted the cooperation between the Border Police of BiH and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska in this and other cases in the fight against cross-border and all other forms of crime, the statement from the Border Police of BiH said.
