State of Qatar sends 37 tons of aid to Palestinians in Gaza Strip

(Patria) - In line with the directive of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, this Gulf state has sent a plane with 37 tons of food and medical supplies to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, a population in an extremely difficult situation following the escalation of violence in the Middle East.

The food and medical aid, provided by the Qatar Development Fund, were sent on Monday, October 16, to Al Arish in the Arab Republic of Egypt, from where they are expected to be transferred to the Gaza Strip.

“This aid is part of the full support of the State of Qatar for the brotherly Palestinian people in difficult humanitarian conditions due to the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip,” reported the Qatari state news agency QNA.

While the Israeli bombing continues, bakeries in Gaza are running out of bread, drinking water is gradually becoming scarce, and power outages are frequent. Because of this, Palestinians cannot charge their mobile phone batteries, which hinders their communication with each other.

Qatar's aid coincides with diplomatic efforts led by Doha to de-escalate, open humanitarian corridors, and prevent the forced displacement of the population of the Gaza Strip.

Qatar wants to support the resilience of the people of Gaza on their land despite the brutal aggression in which people and buildings are being killed, while hospitals, health facilities, and schools are being targeted, writes the newspaper “Al-Raya”. Meanwhile, official Doha is making efforts to open humanitarian corridors that would enable urgent delivery of aid to people in the Gaza Strip.

As reported by agencies, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that urgent access to Gaza is needed for the delivery of aid and medical supplies, warning of a long-term humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave. The Regional Director for Emergency Situations of the WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, Dr. Richard Brennan, said that the agency is meeting with “decision-makers” on Tuesday to open access to Gaza as soon as possible.
