Association of BiH Journalists condemns attack on N1 journalist Adi Bebanić

(Patria) - The Association of BiH Journalists condemned yesterday's attack on N1 journalist Adi Bebanić and expects that measures provided by law will be taken against the attacker.

"Although the events surrounding yesterday's Pride Parade in Sarajevo, as well as the protests against the Parade, generally passed without incident, and showed that it is possible to discuss sensitive topics in BiH with a high degree of tolerance and willingness to accept differences, the Association of BiH Journalists notes with regret that even these events could not pass without a new case of attack on media representatives," the association stated in a press release.

According to the information available to the Association of BiH Journalists, during yesterday's protest against the Parade in the center of Sarajevo, an attack occurred on colleague Adi Bebanić, a journalist for N1 television, specifically a physical altercation with a citizen, allegedly dissatisfied with N1 television's reporting.

At the same time, they state that a more serious incident was prevented by a swift police intervention, and that the case was recorded through an official note.

"We expect that measures provided by law will be taken against the attacker, and we call on the public once again to respect media representatives and express their potential dissatisfaction with someone's reporting in an appropriate manner," the statement reads.

The Association of BiH Journalists reminds that freedom of expression and the media are the basic foundations of democracy, without which normal discussion on any topic is unimaginable in society.
