(Patria) - It is not expected that all participants of the Peace Summit on Ukraine in Switzerland will sign the final declaration, although more due to wording than actual lack of support, according to Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
- Regardless of the diplomatic subtleties in the wording, the fundamental common position will not be undermined - Nehammer said today on the sidelines of the event at the mountain hotel resort Bürgenstock near Lucerne.
Therefore, the Austrian Chancellor adds, he is not so worried if not everyone signs now.
- There is still no clear answer to the question about the scope of the next conference. Before Russia sits down at the negotiating table, another conference in a different format is conceivable. You really have to see this as a process - Nehammer added.
The two-day conference of 92 countries and eight international organizations was scheduled to conclude in the afternoon, when the final declaration was also to be announced.
According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the conference has made significant progress.
Kuleba said that even countries that were not present are aware of the impetus given by the meeting.
- Overall, the process that has been initiated is very welcome. We are on the right track - Kuleba said.
He reiterated the need for military support for Ukraine with the highest quality weapons possible. The stronger Ukraine is, the more willing Moscow will be to negotiate peace, he believes.
Press conferences were planned at the end of the conference, including one with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The goal of the event was to launch a peace process that would also involve Russia in the long term. Officials from Moscow were not invited on this occasion, nor did they express a desire to attend.
