Drežnica does not forget 66 šehids killed in defence of the homeland

Last weekend, the Day of the Šehids of Drežnica was marked in Drežnica near Mostar. It was an opportunity to once again remember all the victims of the Drežnica region, reports the Patria agency.

The Day of the Šehids of Drežnica was traditionally marked with a religious, cultural and artistic programme at the Memorial Centre, which stands as a witness of time, reminding us never to forget the šehids who shed their blood on the Herzegovinian karst and Bosnian meadows, built in honour of 66 šehids who gave their lives for the homeland.

- The Memorial Centre, on this hot July evening in Donja Drežnica, was filled with different generations, more than 400 attendees who appropriately remembered their loved ones, their most chosen sons, the šehids. Participants of the programme from this congregation prepared an unforgettable and impressive programme for the souls that hovered over the world of their mothers, fathers, brothers, sons, daughters, relatives and neighbours. The programme was performed glorifying the Creator Allah, may He be exalted, by reciting passages from the Holy Qur'an - said Eldis ef. Balić.

The gathering was addressed with appropriate speeches by war commander and representative in the Assembly of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Zijat Mušić, and the envoy of the chief imam of the Islamic Community of Mostar, Mr. Dino ef. Maksumić.

The female participants of the programme performed recitals and autobiographical essays that visibly and deeply moved all present, especially the family members of the šehids.

Members of the Alternative Theatre Drežnica, in the best way representing Drežnica and the city of Mostar, performed a moving performance titled "Mother of Srebrenica" by author Professor Edita Kevro in honour of all our šehids.

- Drežnica was defended by an army of heroes, it endured the oppressor's tyranny because the stubborn defiance of Drežnica was stronger - are the words of one of the programme participants.
