(Patria) - Davor Dragičević, the father of David Dragičević, whose death has not been solved even after almost five years, announced today that he is withdrawing from the legal battle. He noted that the lawyer will continue to work on this case, but that he has given up.
"What I, my family, the lawyers, and the 'Justice for David' group have received has been constant humiliation. This is not directed personally against anyone, this is based on the evidence I have. I cannot allow witnesses to be questioned at the police administration in Banja Luka where people were beaten and mistreated in 2018. That members of the criminal MUP be present at the alleged search of Đorđe Rađen's house looking for DNA. If the procedure is secret, how did Đorđe's lawyer, Dragan Stupalj, come to be there and publicly state that he has never attended a better investigation? What right does he have to be there?", said Dragičević.
He reminded that from the very beginning he has been asking for the premises of the MUP to be inspected and wondered why the video surveillance footage from where his child's body was found was not inspected to see who planted the items.
"For me, this is the downfall of the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today marks my personal withdrawal, not the lawyer's, from the legal battle. Remember this. Let the Prosecutor's Office do as it pleases, I will no longer address the media regarding their work. This is only my debt to Ifet Feraget and to my son and family, to you, and to the 'Justice for David' group," said Dragičević.
He stated that as long as he and Muriz Memić are the injured parties, and as long as the Criminal Code of BiH is not changed, there will be no justice in this country.
"No one alive will see justice in this state. This is a corrupt system. I claim that the RS regime, led by the then-president Milorad Dodik, and the Minister of Internal Affairs Dragan Zlukač (Lukač op.a.), who sued me for slander and achieved nothing, is behind the murder of my child. I state this under full material and life responsibility," he said.
Davor said that this is not just about his son David and that he recently saw footage of horrific police brutality that still cannot be released to the public.
"This is the death of the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina no longer exist for me. For five years, they have done whatever they want to me. Until we are a party to the proceedings, nothing will come of this. I will not withdraw this decision, even when I lay here for 63 days. I know what we went through," he said.
Lawyer Ifet Feraget said that as a man and a professional, he can confirm Davor's words that this is the downfall of the rule of law.
"But I have no other solution than to continue the fight. We will have a conversation with the Prosecutor's Office. It is true that there is no search if there are no grounds for suspicion that something will be found during the search. What right does a lawyer have to say who is or is not a suspect? If someone is not a suspect, there is no need for a lawyer to be there either," he said.
