DPS: We condemn the attack on Eraković, call for urgent investigation and prosecution of those responsible

(Patria) - We most strongly condemn the attack on the vice-president of our party, Dr. Jevto Eraković, which took place today in Podgorica, announced the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

"Deviant behavior, violence, hatred, and intolerance, which have flooded our society, are the consequences of chauvinism and extremism, which have taken hold in an atmosphere predominantly created by the authorities and the two governments formed after August 30, 2020, Krivokapić's and Abazović's. Whether it is physical or verbal attacks, whether threats are directed directly or through social networks, the common denominator is that they are based on ethnic or religious grounds," they stated in the announcement.

It is clear, the DPS assesses, that the goal of these attacks, intimidation, and threats is to impose the Greater Serbian ideology as state ideology, and in this way destroy the civic character of Montenegro.

"Unfortunately, state bodies have not stood up to protect their citizens, and by doing so, they have only encouraged the perpetrators of violence to carry out their violence," they add.

According to them, the victims of such a state in society "have become all those who, through their social and political engagement, have opposed the undermining of those fundamental values that have been painstakingly built in Montenegro for decades, and on which our state rests.".

"Today, it is not only a Member of Parliament of the Parliament of Montenegro and the vice-president of a political party who has been attacked. A doctor has been attacked, someone who practices the most humane profession. And above all, a man who was spending his free time with his wife and child at that moment has been attacked. All of the above implies that moral and human principles have fallen to the lowest level," the DPS states.

The Democratic Party of Socialists, they state, demands that the competent state authorities investigate the mentioned case, inform the public about it, and prosecute those responsible for this unfortunate event as soon as possible.
