Came to their senses: Bosnia and Herzegovina halved salt imports

Bosnia and Herzegovina reduced salt imports from nearly eight million KM, which it imported in 2013, to about 4.4 million KM, which it imported in the first 11 months of 2014, writes the BH news agency Patria.

According to data from the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, the largest reduction relates to salt used for sprinkling on roads. In 2013, BiH imported nearly four million KM worth of this salt, which triggered a barrage of criticism from domestic producers. However, the import of salt for roads was significantly reduced last year and amounted to just over 640,000 KM.

- Solana in Tuzla is one of the most famous saltworks in the region, so it is absurd that BiH annually gave millions to other countries for salt – this company believes.

By reducing imports of goods into BiH and purchasing domestic products, the BiH economy is supported, thereby creating an environment for new jobs in BiH, writes Patria.
