Zaim Memagić, a Sarajevo native currently living and working in the Netherlands, today presented a valuable donation to the Municipality of Stari Grad, specifically for elementary school students attending ski school. When he heard about the free winter vacation and ski school project "Igman 2017" organized by the Municipality for students from low-income families, he decided to contribute, reports the Patria agency.
- I read online that the Municipality of Stari Grad paid for winter vacations and ski school for children whose parents cannot afford it, and I really liked that idea. My brother Lelo and I contacted Mayor Hadžibajrić and offered to contribute. This is used equipment, but it will surely be useful for the children as it is of top quality, including skis, poles, ski boots, winter boots, and some ski suits - said Zaim Memagić. He explained that it involves 70 pairs of skis, ranging from children's sizes to adult sizes.
Although he has been living with his family in the Netherlands for more than twenty years, he is very attached to his homeland, especially Sarajevo. The donation of ski equipment is not the only initiative Memagić has realized in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In previous years, he supported the Veterans Association of the Central Bosnia Canton, donated equipment to the Vlašić Ski Club, etc. Zaim emphasizes that his family originates from Olovo, which is another reason for cooperation.
- Although we are far from Sarajevo, we try to stay informed about events in our country. Thus, we read online that the municipalities of Stari Grad and Olovo have become sister cities, which is another reason for us to support these sister city relations - said Zaim.
Memagić was received today by Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, who thanked them for this humane gesture, stating that he is especially pleased when others decide to participate in projects aimed at children. Hadžibajrić said that the Municipality continuously invests in school facilities and projects for students, all to ensure the best possible conditions for the youngest in their primary education and upbringing, as well as their stay and work in schools.
The project "Igman 2017" is being implemented at the mountain lodge "Ozonski raj" on Igman, where fourth-grade elementary school students from Stari Grad are learning to ski with licensed instructors. The donated equipment will be transported to "Ozonski raj" next week and will be available to the children, and will also be used by all future participants. Incidentally, the first group of participants in this school returned to Sarajevo today, and the second group, consisting of students from the schools "Šejh Muhamed ef. Hadžijamaković" and "Mula Mustafa Bašeskija," departs for Igman on Monday morning.
