Donor and polluter: ArcelorMittal donates 18,000 KM to Zenica school “Alija Nametak”

ArcelorMittal company today donated 18,000 KM for the reconstruction of the hall at Primary School “Alija Nametak”. The school in the Pehare settlement, located near Mittal, is attended by about 500 students, for whom the new sports hall will be very useful, writes the Patria News Agency.
The complete reconstruction project of the hall will cost around 100,000 KM, and Mittal donated twenty percent of these funds.

The general director of ArcelorMittal, Biju Nair, also visited the little neighbours today, stating that it is important for him that the company he manages can support socially beneficial projects, especially in the communities from which a large number of his colleagues come.

The school principal, Hatidža Dedić, emphasized that the floor, walls, and the dilapidated roof of the hall will need to be renovated.

- With the help of local communities, we contacted the management of ArcelorMittal. We were happy when we were informed that this company would help our school – said principal Dedić, adding that Mittal certainly has a large number of requests for assistance, but the management chose to help the children from the neighbourhood.

Mittal is an international ferrous metals processing company, which also has facilities in Zenica, after privatizing the Zenica Steel Mill. The company often supports socially responsible projects, but at the same time, it is one of the largest air polluters in Zenica, which is why the association “Eko forum” filed criminal charges against the company's management and relevant federal ministers a few days ago, writes Patria.
