(Patria) – US President Donald Trump has formally launched his campaign for re-election in 2020.
The campaign was officially opened at a rally in Florida, which the Republican president calls his 'second home,' and which was key in the previous 2016 elections.
Among others, Vice President Mike Pence and outgoing spokesperson Sarah Sanders spoke at the rally.
Trump promised voters that he 'would not let them down' and reiterated the well-known slogan of his first presidential campaign that he would 'make America great again'.
During the speech, which lasted about 80 minutes, Trump reiterated some of the key points that marked the previous campaign, such as illegal immigration and the economy.
He promised to continue fighting against illegal immigration: 'We believe that our country should be a sanctuary for law-abiding citizens, not for criminal foreigners.'
He called his opponents 'radical leftists who would bring socialism to the US and destroy the American dream,' CNN writes.
Trump also praised economic progress, criticized the investigation into alleged ties between Russia and the previous presidential campaign, and also addressed the media that covered those events, calling them 'fake news'.
Florida will be key in the 2020 elections, as it was three years ago. If he wants to win, Trump must again win the majority in that US state.
