(Patria) – US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived in Great Britain on Monday morning for a three-day visit, British media report.
Trump will meet with members of the British Royal Family, as well as with Theresa May, for whom this is the last state visit before leaving the post of Prime Minister. Trump and May are expected to discuss, among other things, climate change and the Huawei affair.
The US President was welcomed at the airport by the US Ambassador to Great Britain Woody Johnson and British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
Protests are planned in several British cities, including London, Manchester, Belfast, and Birmingham.
A few days before the visit, President Trump commented on Brexit in the media, stating that he supports Boris Johnson as a candidate for Conservative leader and Prime Minister. Trump also said that Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit Party, should be involved in the government's Brexit negotiations.
On Monday, the US President and the First Lady will visit Westminster Abbey, and will also meet with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall for a traditional afternoon tea at their residence, Clarence House.
In the evening, Queen Elizabeth will host a banquet at Buckingham Palace in honor of the American guests.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow, and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable, who have decided to boycott the event, will not attend the banquet.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, visits will follow to Portsmouth, where the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings will be commemorated, then to Ireland, where Trump will meet with Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, before heading to Doonbeg, where he owns golf courses.
The police operation to secure President Trump during his visit to Great Britain last year cost around 18 million British pounds.
