US President Donald Trump unexpectedly fired FBI Director James Comey, reports AP, according to Patria.
In a letter of explanation sent to Comey, Trump explained that the reason for his dismissal was “restoring public trust in the FBI”.
Comey was the top law enforcement official amid an investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russian interference in the elections that allowed him to become president.
This is only the second time in history that a US president has dismissed an FBI Director.
The first time was in 1993 when Bill Clinton dismissed then-Director William Sessions due to allegations of ethical misconduct.
