Donald Trump Appointed Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State

Rex Tillerson, Chairman and CEO of Exxon Mobil, has been officially appointed as the United States Secretary of State, reports The Guardian, as conveyed by Patria.

- His determination, extensive experience, and deep understanding of geopolitics make him an excellent choice for the position of Secretary of State, Trump said in an official statement from the team overseeing the transition between the two administrations. "He will promote regional stability and focus on the core national and security interests of the United States," the new president explained his decision.

Candidates for the position of Secretary of State also included former presidential candidate Mitt Romney and former CIA chief David Petraeus.

Senators from both parties have expressed concern over Tillerson's lack of experience and close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, the Kremlin reacted to the appointment with visible satisfaction.
