KS Health Center Lacks 30 Doctors, Including Pediatricians Despite Federal Regulation of One Pediatrician per 1000 Children!

(Patria) - Director of the Public Institution Sarajevo Canton Health Center Abel Baltić warned today that there are constantly open calls for specialists, but there is no staff even in the employment bureaus.

He pointed out that they have problems with staff retiring, going abroad, and doctors going for specialization in hospitals and clinical centers. 

Currently, the KS Health Center lacks 30 family medicine doctors. Although it is evident that pediatricians are also lacking, Baltić says that according to federal standards, there are enough pediatricians because someone stipulated that there should be one pediatrician per 1,000 children. Currently, 31 pediatricians work at the Public Institution Health Center, which is not enough for the number of children in Sarajevo Canton. 

- The reason for the large crowds in the first three months of this year in preschool and school dispensaries is simple, because then we breathe the most polluted air in the world, and it is normal to have lung infections and respiratory problems - Baltić determined.

He states that in 2022, the Health Center was visited by 4,862,746 patients, and 20,235,527 were examined. 10,147,456 laboratory services, 340,086 X-ray examinations, and 431,302 ultrasound examinations were provided.

He emphasizes that new equipment has been procured, including four X-ray machines, five ultrasound machines, equipment for the chamber and cold chain, IT equipment, ambulances, and a vehicle for palliative care needs, as well as uniforms for medical staff, cleaners, and receptionists.

The renovation of the facade at the Vrazova Health Center is planned, as well as the opening of several family medicine clinics.
