Sarajevo Canton Health Centers to Re-evaluate Decisions on Sick Leave for Civil Servants

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo calls on the Health Centers of Sarajevo Canton to re-evaluate their procedures and adopt a more serious approach regarding sick leave taken by state employees and officials. We have previously pointed out abuses by certain employees of the Municipality of Stari Grad who, under the guise of sick leave, conducted election campaigns for certain political parties. We have made this information public because we are in possession of photographs that confirm it.

Another example of abuse of public service in the Municipality of Stari Grad is the employee Admir Bećirević, who was on sick leave from 09/10/2020 to 11/17/2020, i.e., 40 days, and at the same time, numerous witnesses saw him working as a driver (van) for the SDA election campaign, where he also performed personal security duties (bodyguard) for candidates.

It is indicative that the 24-year-old Bećirević suffered from "intervertebral disc disease" (cervical disc) throughout the entire campaign, and he suddenly recovered two days after the local elections.

We emphasize again that state employees and officials receive salaries from the budget of the Municipality of Stari Grad during these absences, and their earnings are significantly higher than those in the private sector.
A responsible attitude towards the budget, which is funded by the citizens of this country, is a rule that is respected in the Municipality of Stari Grad, and we believe that doctors who too readily grant sick leave to individuals we dare to say are healthy must also consider this. Because, how else can we explain that someone is incapable of performing their regular tasks and duties for their employer, but is capable of conducting a political campaign? While thousands of young, educated, and capable people are waiting for jobs at the Employment Bureaus, those who have obtained them, and in public service at that, do not know how to appreciate and justify the opportunity they have been given. It is particularly disheartening that these are young people who should now be dedicating their full capacity to the jobs they have been assigned.

Therefore, the Municipality of Stari Grad uses this opportunity, while respecting the medical profession and healthcare workers, to nevertheless request a more serious approach to this problem, and the treatment of patients in accordance with their real health condition, and not according to the needs they express for absence from work due to other obligations.
