House of Peoples: Delegates to discuss police salaries today

Two amendments to the Law on Salaries and Allowances in the Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be discussed at today's session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, and both proposals were previously supported by the House of Representatives.

Delegates should first consider the proposal by Member of the House of Representatives Šemsudin Mehmedović (SDA), who claims that police officers have been disadvantaged because the lowest coefficients for salary calculation have been set for them without pay grades.

With these amendments, Mehmedović proposes a fairer determination of coefficients for police officers from the rank of "police officer" to the rank of "chief inspector," meaning that the coefficients for police officers would be equalized with those for employees and civil servants.

The second amendment to the Law on Salaries and Allowances was proposed by Social Democratic Party (SDP) MPs Mirsad Mešić and Denis Bećirović, and it envisages the abolition of the right to payment of jubilee awards for elected and appointed officials in BiH institutions.

After the Constitutional-Legal Committee of the House of Peoples supported the principles of the Bill on Amendments to the Law on the Protection and Welfare of Animals, delegates of the House of Peoples will also vote on it today, in the second reading.

The proposed amendments, among other things, stipulate that the provision on the ban of animal breeding for fur production will enter into force in 2028, instead of 2018 as stipulated by the current law.
