SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Newly elected US President Joe Biden will be sworn in at a ceremony in Washington as the 46th US President, following a chaotic election process in a country that is still divided by unfounded claims of election fraud by outgoing President Donald Trump.
The world public eagerly awaits Biden. A man, who we could say will be the president of the world.
Many analysts will agree that Joe Biden is the best thing that could have happened at this moment.
Special hope has been born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as Biden himself is well acquainted with the situation in our country. He clearly showed this by congratulating the 25th anniversary of Dayton.
Even then, it was clear that the US would again take on the role of 'leaders' in BiH. Biden warned that the work of the citizens of BiH and the international community in our country is not finished.
“On this day, we celebrate the efforts of peacemakers, although we regret the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives and the displacement of another million people,” Biden wrote, adding that it is important that Dayton confirmed the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of BiH.
However, the tasks that still need to be done remind us that many opportunities have been missed in the past 25 years because BiH is still not a functional state and nationalism is causing problems for it.
“A quarter of a century later, it is clear that the work to promote justice, reconciliation, and a functional, multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina remains unfinished. Too often, we have seen nationalism triumph over national interest and the enrichment of a few that comes before reforms for the benefit of many. This anniversary is an opportunity for all sides to reflect on the possibility of a brighter future and to recommit to the difficult but necessary steps to build a fully functional Bosnia and Herzegovina for all its citizens,” Biden added.
Precisely from such announcements, hope has arisen that after 25 years, BiH will become a functional state with the help of friendly countries.
He announced that as the new US president, he will gladly cooperate with the international community and the people of BiH to finally fulfill the promise contained in the Dayton Agreement, which is a prosperous, just, and democratic BiH in the heart of a united Europe, free and at peace.
Therefore, Biden's arrival can be the lighting of a lamp in the all-too-long darkness called Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Biden also dedicated part of his plan for the US presidency to Bosnia and Herzegovina in his election program. In a text titled "Joe Biden's Vision for US Relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina", it is written that Biden is a proven friend of our country.
After the outbreak of war in our country, then-Senator Biden argued that the US could not stand by while innocent civilians were being killed. In 2008, he was recognized for promoting the truth about the events in Srebrenica in 1995.
Joe Biden also stated that he will be a "president who unites, not divides".
"It's time to end the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other, listen to each other again... and to move forward, we must stop treating our opponents as enemies. They are not our enemies. They are Americans," Biden said in his victory speech.
That is why many call him the president of the world.
Expectations are high, which is why Biden carefully chose associates who will help him achieve them all in the next four years of his term.
