Dodik supports Vučić's idea of a day of remembrance for all victims, but also wants to make a film

Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik believes that the initiative of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić to establish a day of remembrance for victims in the former Yugoslavia should be supported, the Patria News Agency reports.

He emphasized that this is a good initiative, which comes at the right time and is part of the continuity of peace efforts that Serbia is making to strengthen reconciliation and cooperation in the region.

According to him, this initiative should be supported, as 20, or rather 25 years, has not been enough to establish a permanent process of reconciliation that would equalize and have the same standard towards suffering, and there are different views and rhetoric.

Dodik pointed out that a joint ceremony was held in Sremska Rača in a dignified manner, without a single incident, spreading ill will and hatred, and even calling for reconciliation and forgiveness, but not forgetting.

He said that Croatia cannot be denied the right to commemorate what it deems necessary, but when commemorations take on elements of nationalist orgies, it sends an ugly message.

"It is somewhat incomprehensible that a day is being commemorated when 250,000 people were expelled and 2,000 civilians were killed simply because they were in a refugee column," Dodik emphasized, adding that no one has been held accountable for the suffering of Serbs in all parts of the former Yugoslavia.

In order to preserve the memory of the victims, Dodik proposed, as he said, making a "mega-film" about the suffering of Serbs.

"We must do something that can connect young people with the truth, and that is to unite around the making of a mega-film that would encompass all these sufferings, with Jasenovac as the central place, made in such a way that young people understand the tragedy of all these events. This is an idea that RS and Serbia must realize," he emphasized, Tanjug reports.
