DODIK AND ČOVIĆ: A Political Curiosity – The 'Killer' Comes to Mourn with the 'Family of the Murdered'

(Patria) - After negotiations on amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina officially collapsed, and after international officials designated Milorad Dodik as the direct culprit for the failure of the talks, Dodik, who has created a political atmosphere in BiH that could even lead to war, attended a reception in Mostar organized by Dragan Čović, the leader of the HDZ.

The curiosity of this reception lies in the following. Indeed, it is rare for a "killer" to come to mourn with the family of the murdered, and even rarer for the "family of the murdered" to warmly welcome the "killer." Such a parallel could be drawn regarding last night's reception of Dodik in the grieving halls of the HDZ BiH.

Instead of the HDZ leader finally realizing that by following the genocidal policy of Milorad Dodik's regime, he is narrowing his own space for any possibility of agreement, he, together with Dodik, continues to pressure the Bosnian political factor.

However, from the perspective of the interests of the Bosnian political factor, this pressure is not only bearable but also profitable in a broader political sense. Čović and Dodik have gained nothing and, in all likelihood, will gain nothing.

Relations within Europe are changing in favor of the Bosnian political factor. Germany, which was a traditional ally of Croatia, more precisely its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, advocates theses that seem as if they were written in the party offices of left-civic political options in BiH.

Both Dodik and Čović see and feel this kind of change, but they completely ignore it, thinking that the train of European right-wing conservatism has not yet passed and that their threats of secession of parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina or threats of blocking elections can still find an interlocutor within Europe.

On the other hand, the Bosnian political factor now has the opportunity to catch its breath for a moment, but only enough to gather energy for the final showdown with Milorad Dodik, since Dragan Čović's policy has already been thoroughly defeated.
