The Government of Republika Srpska has proposed a new Law on Public Order and Peace, which expands the definition of public place to include the internet, i.e. social networks, for violations of which fines of up to 1,700 KM, and even prison sentences, are foreseen, reports the Patria News Agency.

- Compared to the current Law on Public Order and Peace, the definition of public place is expanded, primarily considering social networks through which certain public order and peace violations are organized, and the connection is found in the place where the consequence occurred... - it is stated in the explanation of the Bill on Public Order and Peace, which the National Assembly will consider at its session on February 3.

The law has been sent for procedure, although the proposer itself admits that it has not received approval that it is in compliance with European regulations.

The Ministry for Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation stated in the statement on the compliance of the Bill with EU regulations: "Not applicable".

For the offense of public order and peace, the range of fines has been increased from 500 KM to 700 KM, or from 1,500 KM to 1,700 KM.
