Dizdarević: Danger Passed, No Radiation After Accident

In a collision of two vehicles that occurred this morning at 3:20 AM on the M-17 Doboj-Modriča main road in the locality of Botajica, one person died. The accident involved a cargo vehicle transporting dangerous radioactive material, reports the Patria news agency.

Emir Dizdarević, director of the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, told Patria that an inspector is on the scene.

The director of the Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Emir Dizdarević, told us that inspectors from this agency have carried out all necessary tests and measurements of radioactivity at the accident site.

- It has been determined that there is no radioactive radiation or danger to the population. The company that will take over the container containing iridium-192 is also present - said Dizdarević.

Incidentally, this involved industrial radiography. These are people who go into the field and test welds on pipes and check the structure of materials. It concerns Iridium-192. Through this, it is possible to see if a weld is compact.

He added that there are rules for seven categories for transporting radioactive waste.

- The vehicle in question has our permit for transport and, according to our by-laws, they notify the local police where they are going to work. They do not have an escort because it is not category 1, which requires an escort - added Dizdarević.
