DF: EU should sanction Plenković for calling not to implement European Court rulings

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Democratic Front believes that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, during his virtual speech at the UN General Assembly, as the Prime Minister of an EU member state, directly called for the non-implementation of the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The fact is that behind the phrases and political constructs that Plenković uttered at the UN General Assembly, such as the supposed need to achieve full constitutionality and adopt an appropriate Election Law, there is actually a direct call to obstruct the implementation of the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"It is known that the same Court, in the Zornić ruling, designated constitutionality as a consequence of genocide and ethnic cleansing, which is clearly seen from point 45 of the aforementioned ruling, and accordingly, in order to eliminate discrimination, this principle must be rejected. In this regard, as proof of the claim, we quote point 45 of the aforementioned ruling; In the Sejdić and Finci ruling, the Court noted that at the time when the disputed constitutional provisions were adopted, a very fragile truce was in place, and that the purpose of these provisions was to stop the brutal conflict marked by genocide and 'ethnic cleansing' (see ibid., point 45). The nature of that conflict was such that it was necessary to agree to 'constituent peoples' in order to ensure peace," stated the DF.

Instead, and contrary to the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia calls for the further strengthening of that principle, and the further strengthening of that principle is only possible by obstructing the implementation of the European Court's rulings.

In this regard, the Democratic Front believes that the institutions of the European Union should exemplary sanction the political and public obstruction of the implementation of the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights by the Prime Minister of an EU member state.
