Nine candidates seek nomination to run for President of Belarus

(Patria) - The Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) has closed the submission of documents for the registration of initiative groups that will collect voter signatures in support of presidential candidates.

A total of nine people have announced plans to run for president. The submission of documents for the registration of initiative groups began on October 23, when the country's parliament announced the election date.

- The Central Election Commission has completed its work - a member told TASS.

The CEC has also registered the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, who is the favorite to win.

The commission will review the documents submitted by five other candidates on November 4.
