Details of the horrific rape in Brčko that the whole country is talking about

The case of the rape of a minor on New Year's Eve in Brčko has attracted great public attention both in Brčko and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The rape was committed by a 16-year-old, and the portal “otisak.ba“ learns that it all happened near a catering facility in Brka near Brčko, reports the Patria News Agency.

- It was heinous. The girl, who is 17 years old, left the establishment around 2:30 AM on January 1st. The 16-year-old followed her out. It is assumed they knew each other from before. He approached her and, not far from the establishment, tore off her clothes, raped her, and threw her into the snow. We know it was very cold that night, so the girl suffered mild frostbite - a source familiar with the entire case told “otisak“.

After that, the girl was transported to the Emergency Department where she received medical assistance. The Brčko District Police quickly found the assailant, but they waited for medical reports which confirmed that the 17-year-old girl had been raped.

The suspect was arrested, and in today's written information from the Prosecutor's Office, it was stated:

“Acting on the proposal of the Brčko District BiH Prosecutor's Office, the Basic Court in Brčko ordered one month of detention for the young man suspected of raping a minor on New Year's Eve.“

- He is suspected of forcing a minor female into sexual intercourse on January 1st in the early morning hours behind a catering facility in Brka near Brčko.

After questioning him as a suspect and issuing an order for his further detention, the Prosecutor's Office filed a motion for detention for this person on January 2nd. The Prosecutor's Office assessed that there is a well-founded suspicion that the suspect committed the criminal offense of rape, and that there is a danger that he will obstruct the further course of the investigation by influencing witnesses.

At the hearing for determining detention, the Prosecutor's Office's motion was accepted in its entirety, and the suspect was ordered into detention for up to thirty days. Since he is also a minor, the justification for detention will be reviewed every ten days. The suspect and his defense attorney can file an appeal against the detention order to the Appellate Court of Brčko District BiH - it was stated in the written information from the Brčko Prosecutor's Office.
