Right-wingers clean Mladić mural, Vučić claims if police had guarded it, it would not have been destroyed

BELGRADE, (Patria) - After SDP Serbia member Đorđo Žujović managed to cover Ratko Mladić's head with white paint on the mural painted on a building in Vračar this morning, a handful of right-wingers "spontaneously" gathered to clean the white paint and reveal the face of the war criminal again. 

The gathering of activists demanding the removal of the mural did not pass peacefully, as right-wingers arrived at the same spot, and police guarded the mural throughout the day. 

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today that the police were protecting public order and peace. 

„As far as I know, that mural was destroyed. If the police had guarded the mural, the mural would not have been destroyed. The police were protecting citizens from mutual conflict. The police were protecting public order and peace and acted professionally. We did not guard any mural or graffiti. I understand that I am blamed for everything by everyone," Vučić said. 

Activists who threw eggs at the mural yesterday, with two female activists being detained and then released, have announced new gatherings until the mural to the war criminal is removed.
