Dozens of aid trucks arriving in Gaza

(Patria) - Dozens of trucks carrying humanitarian aid began entering Gaza today, after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect.

Tess Ingram, a representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), told the BBC that she had just arrived in Gaza City, where thousands of Palestinians are returning to their homes.

Ingram said she was there to assess the needs of the people and establish routes for aid access.

- Aid is arriving in the Gaza Strip. The challenge will be to ensure that we can increase this aid and get it as soon as possible, because the quantities that arrived during this conflict were too small - added Ingram.

She emphasizes that she hopes today "will be the first day when we will see an increase in aid" and that it must reach people across Gaza.

According to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States, the amount of aid entering Gaza is expected to increase.

Hamas has agreed to the first phase of a plan that foresees the release of all Israeli hostages abducted in the October 7, 2023 attack by tomorrow.

According to the agreement, after the hostages are handed over, Israel will release 250 Palestinians serving long prison sentences, and 1,700 detainees captured during the war.

Despite the agreement, numerous issues remain open, including the future governance of the devastated Gaza Strip and the fate of Hamas, which rejects Israel's demands for disarmament.
