SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Ten years ago today, one of the greatest actresses of former Yugoslavia, Semka Sokolović-Bertok, passed away.
Semka Sokolović – Bertok was born on December 22, 1935, in Sarajevo.
Although born in Sarajevo, she graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. She debuted in the film "U mreži" (In the Net) in 1956. Since then, she had notable roles in theatre, films, and series across former Yugoslavia.
During her long acting career, she acted in more than 60 films, many of which were nominated for numerous film awards.
Some of the films she acted in include "Divlji anđeli" (Wild Angels), "Variola vera", "Azra", "Praznik u Sarajevu" (Holiday in Sarajevo), "Kod amidže Idriza" (At Uncle Idriz's), "Grbavica", while she also had notable roles in the series "Bolji život" (A Better Life), "Naši i vaši" (Ours and Yours), "Velo misto", "U registraturi", "Bitange i princeze" (Scoundrels and Princesses), "Vratiće se rode" (The Birds Will Return)…
She died in Zagreb on March 4, 2008, at the age of 73, as a consequence of a stroke. She was one of the greatest and most popular actresses of the ex-Yugoslav stage.
