Democratic Front: Return the FUP to the service of citizens, not to be a private police force for SDA power brokers

The Democratic Front demands that the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all other competent institutions and organisations stop the arbitrariness of the Director of the Federal Police Administration, Dragan Lukač, who, emboldened by the support of the Minister of Interior Aljoša Čampara, no longer chooses the manner of his actions while violating a number of laws, reports the Patria agency.

The latest example of this is the competition for the admission of cadets to the Special Unit of the FUP. The media have been buzzing for days about Lukač's removal of four candidates who were among the top 15 on the list, who were replaced by far lower-ranked candidates to satisfy the "national balance".

Lukač changed the list on his own initiative, even though the Police Board has not yet considered the candidates' appeals.

- This has once again shown that a one hundred percent application of the Law on Internal Affairs of the FBiH must finally be approached in this area. It is known that for a longer period there has been no oversight instrument in Lukač's work, and it is necessary to initiate independent parliamentary investigations and oversight of the work of the Federal Police Administration and its director.

The testimonies of candidates who were removed from the candidate list and were not admitted simply because they are not suitable are frightening.

It is frightening that there has been no reaction from the authorities to the letter that one of the candidates sent to several addresses, in which he provides information about the admitted candidates.

Without entering into the veracity of the allegations, as that should be checked by security services, we cannot help but wonder whether the Special Unit really needs persons aged 35, which is considered almost the end of active service for police structures.

We from the DF call on Director Lukač and Minister Čampara to respect the Law on Police Officers of the FBiH and not to discriminate against candidates.

It is expected that the Parliament of the FBiH will muster the strength to ensure the implementation of oversight and thus return the Federal Police to the service of its citizens, and not to be a private police force in the service of the power brokers from the SDA and HDZ BiH, as it is today.
