Democrats do not intend to seek a replacement for Biden

(Patria) - Sources from the top of the Democratic Party yesterday ruled out the possibility of replacing Joe Biden as their candidate for the US presidential elections in November.

They called on their members to rather concentrate on the consequences of a potential second presidential term of Republican Donald Trump.

After dust was raised for days about Biden's candidacy and the outcome of the elections on November 5, leaders of the Democratic Party decisively rejected calls for their party to choose a younger presidential candidate.

Biden (81) socialized with family members at the presidential resort in Camp David, and his political future was likely a topic of conversation.

Nevertheless, those calling for Biden's replacement as the Democratic candidate are still vocal.

A CBS poll released after the debate showed a 10 percent jump in the number of Democrats who believe Biden should not run for president, which is now 46 percent compared to 36 percent in February.

"The sad truth is that Biden should withdraw from the race, for the good of the nation he has so dedicatedly served for half a century. The fate of retirement is now inevitable for President Biden," wrote the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a Sunday column.

"Absolutely not," replied Democratic Senator from the state of Georgia Raphael Warnock, one of several Democrats considered a potential replacement for Biden.

- Bad debates happen. The question is: For whom has Donald Trump ever stood up except for himself and people like him? I am with Joe Biden and our task is to ensure that he crosses the finish line in November - Warnock told NBC's Meet the Press program.

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, who could become Speaker of the House next year if his party manages to take control of the House in November, admits that Biden suffered a setback in his debate with former president, Republican candidate Donald Trump.

- I believe that failure is nothing more than preparation for a comeback. So, the moment we are currently in is a moment of comeback, and it will require all of us to join forces, to articulate a message about why the Democratic option is best equipped to deal with the challenges facing the American people - Jeffries told MSNBC.

Another Democrat from the top of the party in the House of Representatives, Representative James Clyburn, agreed, saying: "He should stay in this race. He should demonstrate his ability to lead the country in the future".

During the debate, Biden gave an unconvincing performance with pauses and a hoarse voice, stumbling over his words several times.

Some Democrats later privately assessed that this debate could prove to be a disqualifying factor.

Republicans reacted sharply to the Democrats' claims that Biden's poor performance in the debate was just a bad showing.

- The idea that Biden had a bad night doesn't hold water. He had a bad presidency, he had a disastrous debate - stated Republican Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham for CNN.
