Delegations at Kazani pay tribute to murdered victims

(Patria) - A delegation of Sarajevo Canton, led by the Speaker of the Assembly Elvedin Okerić, which also included Deputy Speaker Vibor Handžić and representative Igor Stojanović, paid tribute today to the civilian victims at the Kazani site, located on the slopes of Trebević above Sarajevo. 

During 1992 and 1993, soldiers who refused to place themselves under the command of the General Staff of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina brought and killed civilians, who were then thrown into a pit. For this war crime, in 1996, 14 former soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina were sentenced to terms ranging from 10 months to six years in prison. 

At the initiative of the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, a memorial to the victims was unveiled last year, bearing the names of 17 killed citizens of Sarajevo, mostly of Serbian ethnicity.  

„We will forever, with sorrow and respect, remember our murdered fellow citizens“, is the text engraved on the memorial.  

In addition to the Canton delegation, representatives of other levels of government and associations also attended the commemoration.
