The Cantonal Court in Zenica has again sentenced Hajrudin Dedić to six years in prison for crimes in Breza, reported BIRN, according to the BiH news agency Patria.
Enes Malićbegović, presiding judge of the Trial Chamber, stated that the Chamber was not left in doubt even after the retrial.
- Even if we exclude the events related to the search and apprehension, what remains is a war crime, as concluded by the Chamber in the initial verdict - Malićbegović said.
The trial was reopened after the first-instance verdict, by which Dedić was found guilty in October 2014 of participating as a police officer in Breza on June 10, 1992, in searching houses in the hamlet of Dužice and apprehending civilians of Serb nationality, and beating them with others at the police station, was overturned.
Two civilians died, and three sustained severe bodily injuries.
The Supreme Court of FBiH overturned this verdict. Acting on the Supreme Court's decision, the court in Zenica today re-heard Mićo Subotić regarding the circumstances of the search and apprehension.
The witness stated that he and his father were beaten in front of their house by the accused and one other person before he was taken to the police station.
An appeal against today's verdict is possible to the Supreme Court of FBiH, reports NAP.
