(Patria) - Denmark has announced the passing of a law banning the public burning of the Quran, local media reported.
"The Danish government will ban the public desecration of the Quran," said Justice Minister Peter Humelgard on Friday.
He stated that the government will pass a law banning the burning of religious texts in public places, reports the newspaper "Ekstra Bladet".
"Public burning of religious texts must be punishable by up to two years in prison," Humelgard emphasized at a press conference.
Calling the burning of the Quran essentially a mocking and insensitive act, the Justice Minister said that the desecration of the Muslim holy book also harms Denmark's interests.
