Sarajevo Canton Days 2023: Concert by the Trieste Partisan Choir

(Patria) - On Saturday, May 6, 2023, starting at 8:00 PM, as part of the Sarajevo Canton Days 2023 program, a concert by the Opera NPS choir, the Trieste Partisan Choir "Pinko Tomažić" and the chamber mixed choir KUD "Lola" will be held at the Susan Sontag Theatre Square.

The program will include compositions such as: Ode to Joy, Hey Brigades!, Brigata Garibaldi, The Lake Rests in Silence, Fischia il vento, Blowing in the Wind, Count on Us, A Grave Next to a Grave in Kordun, Morning on the Front/Salavi, Bella Ciao, and others.

The Opera NPS choir and the KUD "Lola" chamber mixed choir will be conducted by Josip Katavić, while the Trieste Partisan Choir "Pinko Tomažić" will perform with the accompaniment of the Trieste Orchestra under the baton of maestro Pija Cah. Admission to the concert is free.

TRIESTE PARTISAN CHOIR PINKO TOMAŽIĆ

The largest Slovenian partisan choir is an important cultural segment of the Slovenian community in Italy that performs songs on the theme of the National Liberation War (NOB), with an emphasis on Yugoslav and Slovenian partisan struggles. Since its founding (1972), the choir has had more than 500 members, both singers and composers. The choir has had over 1000 performances worldwide, and in the post-Yugoslav period, some of its biggest concerts were held in 2012 and 2013 at Cankar Hall and in the Stožice Arena in Ljubljana, as well as a concert in November 2017 together with the famous "Alexandrov" choir from Moscow.

The choir is led by conductor Pija Cah. Their standard repertoire includes songs of Yugoslav and Italian partisans, such as Bella Ciao, Konjuh planinom, Sivi sokole, Hej brigade! (song of the city of Ljubljana), Na juriš!, Vstala Primorska, Na Kordunu grob do groba, Bilećanka, and songs of the international anti-fascist movement.

Sarajevo Canton Days 2023, traditionally held from May 2 to 9 this year, offer a rich program with more than 60 different events. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy numerous free events, including pop-rock and jazz concerts, theater performances, children's programs, exhibitions, book promotions, folklore ensemble performances, health check-ups, etc., at various locations throughout Sarajevo Canton. Admission to all programs is free.
