(Patria) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will begin negotiations today in Washington on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, with a meeting with Steve Witkoff, the US President Donald Trump's envoy for the Middle East.
According to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu will meet with Trump at the White House this week to discuss Gaza and the Israeli hostages still held there.
During the meeting with Witkoff, Netanyahu will discuss Israel's positions on the ceasefire. Witkoff will then speak with officials from Egypt and Qatar, who, with Washington's support, have mediated between Israel and Hamas over the past 15 months.
Israel and Hamas reached a complex ceasefire agreement last month, to be implemented in three phases, which halted the fighting in Gaza.
Hamas has so far released 18 hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. More than 70 hostages remain in the Gaza Strip.
