21st anniversary of the Otoka massacre today: 9 killed, 38 wounded Sarajevans

Today marks the 21st anniversary of the massacre in Žrtava fašizma street near number 12 in the Sarajevo settlement of Otoka, when 9 Sarajevans were killed and 38 were seriously and lightly wounded, writes the BH news agency Patria.

On that November 10, 1993, three mortar shells were fired from aggressor positions from the direction of Nedžarići at the moment of humanitarian aid distribution.

Elma Geko, Slavojka Govedarica, Semir Haseta, Amina Hećo, Ajdin Hodžić, Ibrahim Huskić, Vinko Lončar, Silvijo Mačorović, and Božidar Šuka were killed then.

The shelling of Sarajevo was daily, and in the same settlement, only a few months earlier, BH footballer Edin Džeko had narrowly escaped death. Namely, on July 30, 1993, a shell fell on the playground in Ilije Engela street.

Four civilians were killed, including two children, and four were wounded. Džeko said in several of his interviews that he wanted to go out to play football that day, but his mother Belma did not allow him.

– A few minutes later, a shell fell on the playground. Her intuition saved my life – Džeko said earlier.

Irma Hadžimuratović, Jasmin Terović, Elvira Hadžimuratović, and Vera Kovačević were killed then.
