MOSCOW, (Patria) - Damir Džumhur said goodbye to the ATP tournament in Moscow already in the first round after being defeated by Egor Gerasimov 2:1 (6:1; 6:7; 6:2) in sets.
The Belarusian tennis player, ranked 242nd on the ATP list, played the first set furiously, quickly took a 3:0 lead, made another break, and after 20 minutes of play, led 1:0 in sets.
The second set brought much more uncertainty. Both players made one break each, so the decision fell in a tie-break that Džumhur won 7:5, thus forcing a third set.
The deciding set also saw two breaks, both made by Gerasimov in the sixth and eighth games for a 6:2 score and a final 2:1 in sets.
Given that Džumhur was defending his title in Moscow and was defeated in the first round, our best tennis player can expect a significant drop in the ATP rankings.
