Black Sunday: Motorcycles involved in two out of three accidents, one person dead, five injured

During Sunday in Sarajevo Canton, a total of 27 traffic accidents occurred, of which 24 involved material damage and 3 involved casualties, resulting in one fatality, three serious and three minor injuries. 

The first accident occurred in the locality of Vlakovo, Ilidža municipality, when a car hit a child born in 2003 who sustained life-threatening injuries and was kept for further treatment at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo.

The second accident occurred on the roadway of Bulevar Meše Selimovića, Novi Grad Sarajevo municipality, where a motorcycle knocked down a pedestrian, and both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian sustained serious injuries and were kept for further treatment.  

The third and most tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the locality of Dupovci in Hadžići. A collision occurred between a car and a motorcycle, and due to the force of the impact, the motorcycle was thrown and collided with another passenger motor vehicle.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, while the passenger on the motorcycle, P.S., born in 1995 in Sarajevo, sustained serious injuries, and a passenger from the vehicle that first collided with the motorcycle sustained minor injuries.

Given the nice weather, motorcyclists are increasingly common on Sarajevo roads, often posing a danger to other traffic participants due to their speed, especially to pedestrians who frequently cross the road in unauthorized places. The most common cause of accidents is inappropriate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. During Sunday alone, 28 drivers who were under the influence of alcohol were removed from traffic. Eight persons were removed for driving without a valid driver's license, two motor vehicles due to expired registration, and five unregistered motor vehicles.
