Covid-19: India eases measures despite rising infection rate, Chinese vaccine confirmed as safe

(Patria) – The number of newly infected people with the coronavirus in India has increased by 72,049 in just 24 hours and now stands at 6.76 million.

On the same day, 986 new deaths due to infection were recorded, leading to a worrying figure of 104,555.

Due to the extremely poor epidemiological statistics, populous India is third on the world list, immediately behind the USA and Brazil.

Although the epidemic in India shows no signs of receding, the local government continues to ease measures, and schools and cinemas have reopened.

At the same time, an experimental Chinese vaccine against the coronavirus, developed by the Institute of Medical Biology at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, has been confirmed as safe in the early stages of clinical trials.

During Phase 1 clinical trials on 191 healthy participants aged 18 to 59, the vaccine did not cause severe side effects.  

The most common reactions in this clinical trial, which scientists classify as side effects, included mild pain, slight fatigue, and irritation (redness, itching, and swelling) at the injection site.  

Although clinical trials are not yet complete, China has already vaccinated thousands of essential workers, as well as other groups considered at risk for other vaccines, which has caused concern among global experts.

China is developing at least four experimental vaccines against the Covid-19 virus, which are already in the final stages of clinical testing.
