Čović called the Russian aggression an armed conflict in Ukraine, then threatened to block elections in BiH

The Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH PA, Dragan Čović, met in Zagreb with the leadership and members of the Croatian General Staff. The meeting discussed current security challenges in Europe and confirmed that the security strategy on European soil must be compact, unified, and a guarantor of lasting peace.

The armed conflicts in Ukraine are a call for special attention to geopolitical security challenges that must not spill over into the Western Balkans in any way or threaten peace.

Čović particularly emphasized the necessity of urgently stabilizing the political situation within the Federation of BiH, as well as consolidating relations between the three constituent peoples in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement.

A prerequisite for a stable and functional Bosnia and Herzegovina is ensuring the legitimate political representation of the constituent peoples at all administrative-political levels.

Systemic discrimination and the imposition of political representatives are unacceptable in democratic political systems and undermine any European perspective. Furthermore, it was emphasized that at this moment, there are no formal legal conditions for holding General Elections. Amendments to the election legislation and the implementation of decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the European Court of Human Rights are an urgent necessity that must have its positive epilogue, it was concluded at today's meeting, according to the HDZ.
