Čović on the verge of sanctions: Brought Croats into conflict with Washington and closer to Moscow!

Dragan Čović, president of HDZ BiH, is on the verge of the US Blacklist. 

This is clear from the statement of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States Matthew Palmer, who spoke about the latest political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In an interview with Voice of America, Palmer said that BiH cannot afford to stumble from one crisis moment to another.

“Mr. Dodik has previously behaved in a way that is inconsistent and incompatible with the Dayton Agreement, and he was therefore subject to US sanctions. Anyone who joins anti-Dayton positions risks such a response from the United States,” Palmer said.

Čović publicly joined Dodik in blockades and attacks on the Constitutional Court of BiH, thereby bringing Bosnian Croats into conflict with Washington and closer to Moscow!

Due to Čović’s increasingly dangerous actions, sources from diplomatic circles have long stated that Dragan Čović, the leader of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian HDZ, is very close to US sanctions.

Čović’s rhetoric, especially in the last few months, is as negative as Dodik’s. The methods of blackmail in forming government, as well as the purely declarative talk about the path to NATO and the EU, are increasingly bothering the international community, because actions speak louder than words.

The amendments to the Election Law of BiH as requested by Dragan Čović would bring new ethnic divisions to BiH. Čović demands that a member of the BiH Presidency can only be elected by Croats from Herzegovina, which is considered the electoral base of HDZ, while this possibility would be taken away from Bosnian Croats. 

According to the same principle, Čović wants to regulate the election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the Federation. Such demands are contrary to the Dayton Agreement. 

The establishment of a separate territorial unit in BiH was the war aim of Croatian President Franjo Tuđman, which the Hague Tribunal assessed as a joint criminal enterprise, by which a part of BiH was to be annexed to Croatia by force.

Although HDZ constantly emphasizes that they are promoters of European values, the actions visible on the ground are distancing them from democratic values.

"It doesn't have to be an entity, it can be any kind of federal unit," Čović said a year and a half ago.
