Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination for US President at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and said that Americans must work together to overcome internal and external challenges that threaten to divide the US, reports the Patria News Agency.
In the most important speech of her political career, Clinton highlighted the themes of her campaign for the elections in which she will face Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on November 8th.
"America is once again at a crossroads. Strong forces threaten to divide us. The bonds of trust and respect are under pressure," Clinton said, as reported by agencies.
"And as it was with our founders, there are no guarantees. Everything is truly up to us. We must decide whether we will work together to rise together," she said.
"We clearly see what our country is facing. But we are not afraid. We will answer the challenge as we always have."
"It is no surprise that people are concerned and seeking reassurance, seeking strong leadership" given the terrorist attacks in the world and the US, Clinton said, emphasizing that the US needs to cooperate with its allies in NATO and the world. "I am proud to stand with our allies in NATO against any threat they face, including from Russia," Clinton said.
In her speech, Clinton attacked Trump for inciting fear and division.
"Don't let them tell you we are weak," Clinton said, urging Americans not to believe Donald Trump "who says he can solve problems alone." "America will never be a country where only one person holds power," Clinton said, emphasizing unity and solidarity as the path to solving problems.
"Donald Trump offers not real change, but empty promises," she said.
"I will be president of everyone, of all of America, of those who will vote for me and those who will not," she said, adding that the nomination of a woman for president is a historic act and "a step towards a more perfect community."
In her speech, Clinton stated that her "priority mission" will be to create more opportunities, more good jobs, and wage growth, and that she will make firm decisions in the fight against "threats and instability" in the world and in the country.
The Democratic candidate also thanked her rival in the Democratic Party, Bernie Sanders. "His campaign has inspired millions of people," Clinton said, telling his supporters that "your goals are our goals."
In her speech, Clinton also emphasized that today "America is strong thanks to Obama's presidency" and recalled positive economic indicators, writes Index.
