(Patria) - Jens Stoltenberg will most likely remain in the position of NATO Secretary General until the summer of 2024.
Three diplomatic sources within this process state for the Norwegian Verdensgang that a formal decision on another year of extension can be expected in the coming days.
At NATO headquarters in Brussels, it is expected that Stoltenberg's confirmation will come before the summit on July 11 and 12 in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.
According to VG's information, the most likely conclusion is that he will remain in the position of NATO Secretary General until the summer of 2024.
The only candidate
VG reported last week that Jens Stoltenberg is the only candidate that NATO member states have considered and that pressure on Stoltenberg is increasing for him to continue as Secretary General until the summer of 2024.
Now the process has gone a step further: it seems that the members agree on the desire for Stoltenberg to continue.
On Tuesday evening, Stoltenberg was asked by NRK at a press conference in The Hague when we can expect confirmation of the extension:
"I have stated my position several times. I have nothing more to add. I am not seeking an extension, as I have said several times before," he replied.
