G7 members call on Israel to respect international law

(Patria) - The G7 member states yesterday called on Israel to respect international law and treat Palestinians in a humane and dignified manner.

The G7 foreign ministers stated in a joint statement that it is necessary to thoroughly and transparently investigate credible allegations of crimes and ensure accountability for any abuses or violations of rights.

"Israel must act in accordance with its obligations under international law and treat people in a humane and dignified manner," they said in the statement.

They reiterated their opposition to the planned Israeli military operation in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, which they said would have catastrophic consequences for the civilian population.

The statement by the G7 foreign ministers also calls for the protection of civilians in Gaza and addressing their humanitarian needs.

"We are deeply concerned about internal displacement within Gaza and the risks of forced displacement from Gaza," the statement added.

The G7 is an intergovernmental political and economic forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, as well as the European Union as a non-enumerated member.
